Standing Seam Metal
Whether you need a metal roof to reduce your building’s energy consumption, or an entirely new roof that’s eco-friendly, we’re here to help!
Both of these roofing options can contribute to critical improvements for both residential homes and commercial buildings:
- They make your house more efficient in energy consumption
- They improve indoor air ventilation drastically
- They last longer because they are more durable against harsh weather
Not Just Metal, But Standing Seam
Standing seam metal roofing is not your average metal roofing. Houses with metal roofs in your neighborhood are most likely of the standing seam variety. Continuous panels run from the ridge of the roof all the way down to the eaves. Between the panels are seams connected by fasteners, which are raised above the level of the metal roofing, resulting in a more weatherproof roof.
- Seam Fasteners: These might be anywhere from 0.5″ to 1.5″ high. The fasteners are concealed, so you will only see a continuous ridge extending from top to bottom.
- Pre-Formed vs. Site-Formed: Pre-formed panels are created in an off-site factory. Site-formed panels are created from rolls of metal that are run through mobile forming machines that crimp the metal into rigid panels.
- Composition and Width of Panels: 12 to 19 inches wide, these panels are usually made of Galvalume-coated steel or aluminum.
High Seams: Seams are the weak point in any roof, as well as a potential entry point for moisture. However, this type of shingle raises the seams above the level of the roofing panel, resulting in better water protection. This isn’t the case for composition shingles.
Fewer Seams: Because the metal panels run unhindered from the top to the bottom of the roof, there are no horizontal seams at all, and fewer seams altogether.
Tough: Metal is very tough and can resist many damages. (Please note that sheet metal in this type of roofing is not impervious to all hazards, and it can be penetrated by heavy, falling limbs or dented by severe hail.)
Long-Lasting: With proper maintenance, you can expect your metal roof to last between 30 and 50 years.
“Cool Roof”: Metal roofs are considered “cool roofs” by the US Environmental Protection Agency. This is because metal roofing can be painted any color, including colors on the lighter end of the spectrum. This helps prevent solar heat gain.
Sleek Looks: These are not the rippled tin roofs that you might remember from warehouses of the past. Perfect for contemporary or country-style homes, the smooth, straight lines on standing seam shingles give your house an “industrial” feeling and a modern flair.
Colors: We mentioned this earlier in terms of lighter, sun-reflecting colors, but what about style? Metal roofing comes in an array of colors, such as grays, browns, forest greens, and earthy reds. While this may not be the full palette of colors you will find at a paint store, it is more than you’ll find with composite or asphalt shingles.
Fewer Roofers: Shake a tree and a hundred roofing contractors who install conventional roofs will fall out. But far fewer contractors install metal roofing, and even fewer install them well. This could result in searching longer for a trusted roofer, as well as a higher project cost due to less competition in the market.
We are proud to be one of the few roofers who install metal roofs and do it well. We’d love to answer any questions you have and talk with you about what options would be best for you.
Make your home the most attractive one in the neighborhood with clay tile. This durable tile will last a lifetime, and our lightweight clay tile options are perfect if weight is an important consideration for your new roof. With so many style options, it’s easy to find a clay tile to suit your individual taste.
Whether you’re looking for efficiency or durability, concrete tile roofing is an easy choice. Concrete tile roofs let you enjoy more peace and quiet at home, as the density of the concrete reduces sound inside. Offering a wide range of styles and colors, our experts will help you find the perfect match for your home in no time.
If you are seeking a low-maintenance roofing option, slate tile may be for you. Made of natural stone, slate tile is more durable than any manmade material. Its natural properties help it withstand harsh weather conditions such as rain, snow, or heavy wind. It is also completely noncombustible and will protect your home in the event of a fire.
